Story

The name ‘Akabi’ is a Greek word derived from the word Agape and means Love. This is the foundation of what we do here at AKABI. The fashion label AKABI launched in Spring 2010 and was founded by designer j’Quita – a self professed social entrepreneur who previously worked professionally in the fashion industry for 8 years. j’Quita felt a responsibility as a designer to do something more positive, and ethical too. Her passions for social responsibility, international development, sustainability (within the supply chain, use of materials and techniques) as well as her love for Africa led her to set up AKABI with a focus to bring ethical intelligence and knowledge to the style of females worldwide and so she birthed the tagline ‘female style intelligence’.
